Day 4: Wisdom in the Wilderness of Trials

Reading: James 1:2-8; Romans 5:3-4

God does not waste our suffering. James does not say that trials are enjoyable. He says they are productive. The testing of your faith produces perseverance, and perseverance produces maturity. God is always building something in the middle of what feels like nothing is happening. When you lack wisdom in the middle of a trial, James says to ask God, who gives generously without finding fault. But you must ask in faith, not double-mindedness. A wavering heart receives nothing. The trials you are facing right now are not evidence that God has stepped away. They may be the very tool He is using to complete something in you.

Reflection: What trial in your life right now might God be using to produce perseverance and maturity in you?

Practical Application: Write down one current struggle and intentionally reframe it as something God is using to build you. Pray over it with that perspective and ask Him specifically for the wisdom to endure it well.
