Day 3: Guarding the Heart

Reading: Proverbs 4:23; Jeremiah 17:9; 1 Kings 11:1-4

Solomon himself wrote the warning to guard your heart above all else, because everything you do flows from it. And yet Solomon did not heed his own counsel. Gradually, through compromise and divided devotion, his heart was turned away from God. This is not a story about a weak man. It is a story about what happens when a gifted and knowledgeable man stops submitting what he knows to the God who gave him that knowledge. Knowing Scripture is not the same as obeying it. Understanding holiness is not the same as pursuing it. A divided heart will always produce a divided life.

Reflection: Where has compromise slowly crept into your life in ways you have perhaps not fully acknowledged?

Practical Application: Ask someone you trust to speak honestly into an area of your life where they may see compromise that you have grown blind to. Receive it with humility.
