Day 4: Remain in the Vine

Reading: John 15:1-5 and Colossians 3:1-10

Jesus did not say that the branch should visit the vine occasionally for encouragement. He said the branch must remain. Abiding in Christ is not a spiritual retreat or a seasonal commitment. It is the constant, daily posture of a life surrendered to Him. Apart from Him, you can do nothing of eternal value, no matter how capable or well-intentioned you may be. Colossians 3 pairs this image with a practical command: put to death what belongs to the old nature and set your mind on things above. Remaining in the vine means actively removing what competes with His life flowing through you. Pruning is not punishment. It is preparation for greater fruitfulness.

Reflection: What in your life is competing with your connection to Christ? What old habits or attitudes are still buried alive, waiting to resurface under pressure?

Practical Application: Spend time in honest prayer today asking God to reveal anything in your heart that needs to be put to death. Write it down, confess it, and ask for His grace to walk free from it.
