Day 3: The Cost and the Call

Reading: Luke 9:23-26, 62; Galatians 1:10

Jesus was never vague about what following Him requires. He spoke plainly of self-denial, of taking up a cross, of pressing forward without looking back with longing toward the old life. The image of a man placing his hand to the plow and then turning to look back is a picture of divided devotion, and divided devotion produces a crooked furrow. The call of God on your life is not a weekend arrangement. It is a full-time commission. When you begin seeking the approval of people over the approval of God, you drift from the path He set before you. Press forward. The call is irrevocable, and the One who called you is faithful.

Reflection: Are you living as a disciple seven days a week, or has following Christ become something reserved for certain hours and settings?

Application: Choose one area of daily life, your workplace, your home, or your neighborhood, and ask God to make you a visible witness in that space this week.
