Day 5: A Gentle Answer Turns Away Wrath

Reading: Proverbs 15:1-4; Ephesians 4:29-32

In conflict, our natural instinct is to defend ourselves, raise our voices, and ensure we're heard. Yet Scripture offers counterintuitive wisdom: a gentle answer turns away wrath, while harsh words stir up anger. Tone matters as much as content. A gentle tongue is a tree of life, bringing healing rather than harm. This doesn't mean avoiding difficult conversations or suppressing truth—it means delivering that truth wrapped in grace and humility. When you feel anger rising and the urge to speak harshly, pause. Take that moment to pray, asking God for wisdom and self-control. Let no unwholesome talk come from your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs. Today, practice the discipline of the gentle answer, trusting that God's way leads to peace.
