Day 4: The Source of All Comfort Is Not a Feeling

Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Comfort is often misunderstood as the absence of difficulty. Scripture presents it differently. God is called the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, and that comfort arrives most powerfully in the middle of trouble, not after it has passed. Notice also the purpose embedded in the passage. You are comforted so that you can comfort others. The pain you have survived is not wasted. It becomes the very credential that allows you to sit with someone in their darkest moment and say, I know the way through because I have been there. Your suffering, surrendered to God, becomes a gift to someone still in the middle of theirs.
