Day 3: The Danger of Selective Hearing

Reading: Psalm 95:6-11; Hebrews 3:12-15

"Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts." The word "today" pulses with urgency because tomorrow's obedience doesn't exist—only today's does. The Israelites in the wilderness heard God's voice but hardened their hearts through unbelief, missing their promised inheritance. Selective hearing—where we acknowledge God's Word but don't apply it—is spiritual rebellion dressed in religious clothing. We attend church, read Scripture, even nod in agreement, yet leave unchanged. This gradual hardening happens through "sin's deceitfulness," convincing us there's always tomorrow to truly surrender. But Scripture warns us to "encourage one another daily, as long as it is called 'Today.'" Who in your life needs that encouragement right now? More importantly, what is God speaking to you today that requires immediate obedience? Don't let familiarity with His voice breed complacency. Respond while it's still called today.
